How to make Knit 4 below
Drop stitch off needle and unravel 4 rows down, insert needle in stitch in the 5th row down and under the 4 loose strands, and knit, catching the 4 loose strands behind stitch

Pattern
Cast on a multiple of 4 sts, plus 3.
Rows 1, 3, and 5 (WS): Purl.
Rows 2, and 4 (RS): Knit
Row 6: Knit 3, *knit 4 below, knit 3, rep from *.
Rows 7, 9, and 11: Purl.
Rows 8, and 10: Knit.
Row 12: Knit 1, *knit 4 below, knit 3, rep from * to last 2 sts, knit 4 below, knit 1.
Rep rows 1-12.
