How to knit Dip st
Insert needle into front of stitch 3 rows below next stitch, knit an extra stitch in this stitch; then knit the next stitch on the left-hand needle and pass the extra stitch over it.

Row 1 (WS): Color A, Purl.
Row 2 (RS): Color A, Knit.
Row 3: Color A, Purl.
Row 4: Color B, K3, *dip st, k3, repeat from *.
Row 5 : Color B, Purl.
Row 6: Color B, Knit.
Row 7 : Color B, Purl.
Row 8: Color A, K1, *dip st, k3, repeat from * to last 2 sts, dip st, k1.
Row 9: Color A, Purl.
Repeat rows 2-9.
