How to knit Cross stitch
Drop long stitch on left hand needle and let hang in front of work. Slip next 2 sts to right hand needle. Drop 2nd long stitch. Insert left hand needle into first dropped stitch, slip 2 sts on right hand needle back to left hand needle and insert left hand needle into 2nd dropped stitch, knit 4.

PATTERN
Cast on a multiple of 5, +1.
Row 1 (RS): Color A, knit.
Row 2: Color A, p1, *p1 wrapping yarn twice, p2, p1 wrapping yarn twice, p1, repeat from *.
Row 3: Color B,  k1, *sl 1 wyib dropping extra wrap, k2, sl 1 wyib dropping extra wrap, [k1, yo, k1, yo, k1] into the next stitch, rep from * to last 5 sts,  sl 1, k2, sl 1, k1.
Row 4: Color B, p1, *sl 1 wyif, p2, sl 1 wyif, k5, repeat from * to last 5 sts, sl 1 wyif, p2, sl 1 wyif,  p1.
Row 5: Color B, k1, *sl 1 wyib, k2, sl 1 wyib, p5, repeat from * to last 5 sts, sl 1 wyib, k2, sl 1 wyib, k1.
Row 6: Color B, p1, *sl 1 wyif, p2, sl 1 wyif, k5tog, repeat from * to last 5 sts, sl 1 wyif, p2, sl 1 wyif, p1.
Row 7: Color A, k1, *Cross stitch, k1, repeat from *.
Row 8: Color A, Purl.
